Srinagar, October 17: J&K Rowing and Sculling Association held its second Annual General Body meeting on Friday with Principal Secretary Animal and Sheep Husbandry J&K Government Navin Kumar Choudhary chairing the meeting and highlighting the various achievements of the body.
It was the second AGM of the association since its inception and with Navin Choudhary being its President he overlooked the proceedings. Director Tourism Kashmir Nisar Ahmed, VC LAWDA Tufail Mattu and CEO Manasbal were special invitees during the meet. The meeting was also attended by office bearers of the association apart from District President and Secretaries of 10 distracts.
The meeting started with power point presentation given on the activities f the Association during past one year and also the future plans to make Rowing a premier water sports activity in J&K. The performance of the J&K players was also reviewed and also review of the equipment was also held.
On the occasion audited accounts of association were also presented in front of the members.
Speaking on the occasion Navin Choudhary praised the efforts of the members of the Association and was impressed with the achievements of the Association within short span of time.
“Within such a short span of time this association has achieved something that some other associations or sports bodies have not done in their lifetime. When we started it, there was no rowing equipment at all in J&K. Today we have latest International standard Rowing equipment with Sports Council apart from Association brings in its own equipment. This may be the only sports association in J&K that has its own equipment. It is bog achievement and it is a step forward in making this association a self reliant,” Navin Choudhary said during the meeting while addressing the members .
“I am thankful to J&K Government for giving special attention to Water Sports in J&K which will help this activity to develop its full potential. J&K is suited for water sports activities and we are now working on to bring International Water Sports competition to J&K. With new state of the art water sports facility and equipment coming up at Nehru Park , it is now possible to host International events in Kashmir ,” he said.
He stressed on to develop grass root level talent and asked district representatives to find and help develop water sports in every corner of the J&K.
“We have got the natural resources and it is now your duty to work sincerely and honestly to develop the grass root talent in your areas. I am always here to help you in every step. To give talented ones chance to develop association, we will be holding open ballot elections in every district with everyone gets equal chance,” he said.
Navin Choudhary also thanked Tourism Department and LAWDA for their support and assured them of full cooperation.
“Water Sports is also a tourism related activity and plays an important role in the development and promotion of Tourism. Apart from Tourism potential it also helps in maintaining the water bodies. With the increase in water sport activities we can keep our water bodies clean,” he said.
Members and players hailed the contribution of Navin Choudhary and said that since taking over as President of the Association he has made huge change.
“Two years ago we couldn’t dream of having rowing equipment in J&K. Today we have latest equipment and facility. It is all thanks to our President. Not only did he pushed Spots Council to procure the equipment but also made his personal efforts to bring equipment for the Association. Rowing Association now has its own equipment,’ said Villayat a National medalist.
