Mohammed Shami’s phone seized by Kolkata Police; BCCI asked to provide his whereabouts after South Africa tour

After allegations of domestic violence and match-fixing were levelled against Mohammed Shami by his wife Hasin Jahan, Kolkata Police has sought details of the Indian pacer’s whereabouts after the series ended. As per a report published in The Indian Express, police have written a letter to BCCI to seek information about his travel details, particularly his stay in Dubai.

“We have sent a letter to the BCCI and (we are) waiting for their response. We have sought details of his (Shami) tours and routes. We are yet to receive any response from the body,” Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police (Crime) Praveen Tripathi told The Indian Expresson Monday.Mohammed-Shami_0
The report added that Shami’s mobile phone has also been seized by the police.

“We have seized the mobile phone and also some documents from the complainant. The mobile will be sent for forensic testing to verify certain things, including the audio clip voice. We will also investigate what network was being used with regard to the mobile and the applications that had been en vogue to communicate with people,” police said.

The Kolkata Police had booked four of Shami’s family members on various charges after Hasin lodged a case last week, according to a report on News 18.com. A case has been registered against the India bowler under section 307 (attempt to murder), 498-A (subjecting a woman to cruelty), 376 (punishment for rape), 323 (causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation).

The 28-year-old pacer, meanwhile, said he was ready for all legal proceedings and was planning to go to Kolkata to help sort the matter out.

“If this matter can be solved by talking, nothing can be better than that. Only patch up will do good for us and our daughter. If I have to go to Kolkata to solve the matter, I will. I am ready to talk, whenever she wants,” he told the media recently.

“I am trying to resolve the entire issue within the family. I am ready for all the legal proceedings and I will do whatever I can to save the future of my kid and family,” he told Aaj Tak in a separate interview.

Hasin had claimed that Shami may have been involved in match-fixing. “He agreed to accept the money after being convinced by one England-based Mohammed bhai. There is a proof. This could be linked to match fixing. Shami checked into a hotel on 18 February with the woman. He came back to India the next day,” she had said. Shami has rubbished the allegations.

“As far as the allegation of compromising my performance while playing for the country is concerned, I would rather die than do something like this,” Shami told the media.

The allegations, however, have not just affected Shami personally, but it has also somewhat dented his career. BCCI have not kept Shami in any bracket under their new contract system. No reason has been given by the BCCI.

“I don’t know that exact reason on why his contract was put on hold by the BCCI. But if the reason is his recent controversies with his wife, then I think this is illogical. No way BCCI can hold someone’s contract on hold on this ground,” Ushanath Banerjee, Ombudsman-cum-Ethics Officer of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) told News 18.com.
