Mohammad Hafeez not interested in PCB Chief Selector role: Report

CricketMohammad Hafeez not interested in PCB Chief Selector role: Report

Srinagar: Former Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has expressed his unwillingness to serve as PCB Chief Selector.

According to report in Cricket Pakistan, PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf has been trying to pursuade Hafeez to accept the role but the former cricketer has declined the offer.

“Discussions were held with Hafeez in the past few days regarding the position of Chief Selector. However, the former cricketer has expressed his desire to work at the grassroots level instead, focusing on nurturing young talent and contributing to the development of cricket from the ground up,” Report said.

Another prominent former cricketer, Rashid Latif, has declined any position in PCB at this time, citing prior engagements and commitments that prevent him from taking on the role, report further said.

The Report also claimed that Moin Khan was also offered the role but the former cricketer has also refused the offer.

“Moin is reluctant to be associated with such cricket affairs due to concerns for his son Azam Khan’s career. He fears that his son’s performance may come under unnecessary pressure if he takes up the position,” report said.

As the Asia Cup 2023 and World Cup 2023 are on the horizon, the search for a suitable Chief Selector has become crucial. Some former cricketers are apprehensive about taking up the role, fearing that they may face criticism if the team’s performance does not meet expectations.
