25-run cameo with the bat and an unplayable spell of bowling by Danish Nabi on Monday helped Media Studies Department, GDC Baramulla beat Central University in final to lift the Media Cosco Cricket Tournament title at Showkat Ali Stadium, Baramulla.
Batting first, hosts posted a a modest total of 105 runs in the allotted 15 overs. Danish was the top-scorer with 25 runs to his name while Saqib Bashir also contributed 24 runs. For Central University (CU), Basit, Zahid, Manzer and Tawseef picked up a wicket each.
In response, CU lost a few early wickets but middle-order batter Zubair came to the rescue. He played a sensible knock of 34 runs, taking the match to the last over.
In the final over, CU needed 10 runs and it was Danish Nabi who decided to defend it for the hosts. The first ball went for four but Danish kept his calm, conceding only 2 runs in the remaining four balls to script the victory for his team.
Danish Nabi, for his all-round performance, was named player of the tournament while Saqib Bashir, who remained consistent throughout the event, won player of the tournament award.
The tournament was a first-of-its-kind initiative by the Media Studies Department of GDC Baramulla in which all the media institutes of Valley took part.
