Srinagar: After a gap of 19 years, Kashmir Univesity Cricket team has cruised their way into the semifinal of the ongoing North Zone Inter University Cricket Tournament (Men) at HP University Shimla on Thursday.
In the quaterfinal, Kashmir University by defeating mighty Punjab University Chandigarh by 21 runs.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss University of Kashmir scored 160/9 in allotted 20 overs. Mujeeb ul Haq was the top scorer with 44 of 34 balls while Mohammad Hurair and Yasir Hamid scored 33 and 22 respectively, for PU Chandigarh Sahil and Sehbaz Singh took 3 wickets each.
In reply PU Chandigarh managed to score only 139 for the loss of 9 wickets in alloted 20 overs. For University of Kashmir Faizan Rouf took 4 wickets while Mehran Nisar and Javed Ahmad (Jaddu) took 2 wickets each. Ayush Sikka was the top scorer for Chandigarh with 44 runs.
This is after the gap of 19 years University of kashmir Cricket team has qualified for semifinals in North Zone Cricket Tournament.
Prof. Nilofer Khan Vice Chancellor has congratulated the team for the exceptional feat and has conveyed her best wishes to the team. It is result of team work which has made the entire University proud.
Prof. Naseer Iqbal Registrar also lauded the efforts of the team and praised them for thier performance. Dr. Nadeem Ahmad Dar Coordinator Directorate of Physical Education and Sports also expressed his delight.
The team is accompanied by Amjid Qadir as Manager cum coach.
