Srinagar: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) elections are set to be held in Mumbai on October 18 and there will be no vote from J&K Cricket Association (JKCA) as the appointed JKCA Sub-Committee has failed to solve disputes and conduct the Cricket Association election.
In the keenly contested BCCI election, a single vote has too much value and the three member committee chosen by BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Hony Secretary Jay Shah has failed to make that available.
The list of state representatives who will vote at the AGM will soon be out but it is not a secret that JKCA will not be having vote or say in the elections as it is run by BCCI appointed Committee.
On June 16 2021 BCCI appointed three member committee with one help from Srinagar to run JKCA affairs.
“In compliance with the Judgment dated 23.03.2021, passed by the Hon’ble Division Bench of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir at Srinagar, the BCCI had formed a Committee over Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA). The Committee comprises Mr. Sourav Ganguly (Honorary President, BCCI), Mr. Jay Shah (Honorary Secretary, BCCI), Mr. Arun Dhumal (Honorary Treasurer, BCCI) and Mr. Rajeev Shukla (Honorary Vice-President, BCCI),” BCCI statement that time read.
“The Committee has now formed a Sub-Committee which shall comprise: Brig. Anil Gupta; Mr. Mithun Manhas and Mr. Sunil Sethi. Further, Mr. Majid Dar will look into the development of cricket at Srinagar and will report to the Sub-Committee members.
The Sub-Committee will look into day to day functioning of JKCA and shall at all times work under the supervision and control of the Committee,” the statement issued by Jay Shah added.
The set mandate for the chosen committee was to run day to affairs of JKCA and at the same time was to bring J&K Cricket body back in order.
It has been more than six years now that J&K Cricket has no representative in BCCI and the persons to raise their issues.
It was previously run by former cop Syed Ashique Bukhari and now by chosen persons of BCCI, a former Military personal, an advocate and former Delhi Cricketer who wants to set his footing back in his home State after having played almost all his cricket for Delhi.
“It is no hidden truth that the Committee has failed to bring JKCA back in order. They have done nothing in that regard and are aware that if they do so, they will lose everything what they are enjoying currently. No one likes to let go luxuries,” said a former cricketer.
Former JKCA member said that BCCI is keen on to hold elections in JKCA but this committee has done nothing in that regard.
“BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah have made it clear always that they want elected body in JKCA. Whenever these committee members meet them, the BCCI President and Secretary stress on holding elections of JKCA. But despite clear directions , the committee has failed to do that,” said a former member.
JKCA’s District Srinagar Cricket Association President Nisar Khan said that the two members out of three appointed have been missing from J&K.
“BCCI has trusted those persons to run JKCA affairs who have been missing from J&K for months. One member is in USA from last two months and signing orders digitally from there. Other member is busy with T20 leagues. First he was involved with IPL including its bio bubble for months and then currently is with Legends League that will also run for more than a month. Out of three remains one member present in J&K who can be seen busy with his Court appointments,” Khan said.
He said that what can J&K Cricketers expect from the persons who have other priorities rather than running JKCA affairs.
“It is disheartening to see BCCI having handed JKCA to those persons who doesnt care for J&K Cricket. If a person remains outside with private leagues for months , how can he run day to affairs of JKCA,” he said.
Khan also highlighted that Sub-Commitee member Mithun Manhas is busy in transplanting his own club JCC officials in J&K cricket.
“Almost all the teams of J&K and other bodies in JKCA include majority of the officials from a club that Manhas is involved with. He is more concerned about transplanting his close ones into JKCA rather than work for the welfare of Cricket, ” he said.
Another former member said that BCCI has always wanted an elected body in JKCA but officials who sit on chair in J&K doesnt want that.
“It is obvious that BCCI can’t help J&K Cricket till an elected body would be there. But irony is that persons who have giving mandate to bring back JKCA in order, do all the things that make that difficult. It is because they dont want to lose monetary benefits that run in lakhs. It is true for previous as well as current body,” he said.
