Srinagar October 30: As a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahaotsav celebration, Fit India, the Jammu and Kashmir Police organised Run “Kashmir Marathon” today. The people of all walks particularly the students and youth participated in the event.
The Director General of Police J&K Dilbag Singh who was the Chief Guest at the prize distribution ceremony held at Police Golf Course distributed cash prizes and trophies among the winners of different events.
Speaking on the occasion DGP appreciated the ADGP Armed and his team for organizing the mega event successfully and started his address with the famous stanza “maiñ akelā hī chalā thā jānib-e-manzil magar, log saath aate gae aur kārvāñ bantā gayā”.
He said that it was a great pleasure to see that JK Police programmes and events have gained such a popularity which are not only witnessing overwhelming participation locally but also from other parts of the country. In pedal for peace we had athletes from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and other parts of the country and in this event too, around 40 athletes from different States of the country participated. He said that around three thousand athletes participated in today’s event which is almost double if compared with last year’s participation of the similar event.
He said around 2500 cyclists in different categories participated in the pedal for peace which was organized last month. This year’s event is unique in itself as around 90 para athletes from different parts of the country took part in the event, he added. He said J&K Police has been organizing a number of programmes which include Jash-ne-Dal, Pedal for Peace and other mega events across the UT to provide a platform to the budding talent to showcase their talent, adding that all events are witnessing an overwhelming participation of youth.
The way people, particularly youth, are cooperating and supporting the peace activities, I am sure we would be able to put an end to the dark period of JK history, DGP added. Appreciating the achievements of Insha Bashir despite difficulties, the DGP said the doors of JK Police are open for all those who want to progress forward in different sports fields.
The DGP said that Jammu and Kashmir Police would continue its tireless efforts to provide a better environment to our people and safeguard the interests of the nation. Recalling the Thana Diwas programme at Shopian the DGP said that a girl desired to make a female cricket team and participate alongside with the boys was a pleasant moment for me.
DGP announced that J&K Police would provide all possible help and assistance to all those who want to achieve their dreams. He congratulated the winners and participants of the event and wished them good luck for the future.
In his welcome address at the award ceremony, the ADGP Armed J&K SJM Gillani welcomed the DGP J&K, members of sports federation and association, media persons, senior officers and civilians for gracing the event. He said that JK Police besides its professional duties has been playing an important role in promoting the sports across JK and added that J&K Police is organizing various sports events every year to provide a platform to the budding youth of the UT.
He informed that JK Police has started a process of recruiting 54 sports persons in JK Police as SPOs and in the very near future the process would be completed. He said that this year JKP’s sports teams participated in various national and international events during which 17 individuals and teams won medals including 02 gold medals.
He said that 3000 persons in different categories participated in today’s event.
Earlier, in the morning DIG Armed Kashmir Shahid Mehraj flanked by other senior officers flagged off the run for various categories. Hundreds of people from all walks of life including students, youth and children had lined up at LakeView Police Golf Course on famous Dal banks to participate in the Marathan.
21 Kms Half Marathon Men, Goru, Virendra Kumar Verma, Ritik Sharma won first three positions and were awarded Rs. 75000, 50000 and 30000 respectively. In 21 Kms for professional athletes, Hans Raj, Ravi Das, Balwinder Singh won first three positions in the category and were rewarded with Rupees 20000, 15000 and 5000 respectively.
In 10 Kms road race U-18 boys, Arun Chandel, Karan Chandel, Mohammad Hussain won first three positions and were awarded with Rs. 50000, 40000 and 25000 respectively. In 10 Kms road race for girls above 14, Sara Naqash, Fanja Devi, Zobiya Tariq won first three positions and were awarded with Rs 50000, 40000, 25000 respectively. In 08 Kms for veteran men above 45 years Ram Raj, Shafat Ul Bashir, Rishi Kumar Nagar were awarded Rs 15000, 10000, 5000 respectively for winning first three positions.
In 05 Kms sub junior boy U-14 Faisal Ahmad, Zaid Bin Mushtaq, Abrar Ashraf, Hashim Reyaz, Harsh Singh, Rizwan Hassan, Sahil Sofi, Ashiq Hussain, Farzan Hussain, Ayaan Yaqoob won first ten position respectively among firsts three first five winners were given Rupees 25000, 20000, 15000, 10000, 5000 respectively and from 6th position to 10th position holder were given Rs 2000 each. In 04 kms sub junior girls u-14, Nisha Bash, Bazila, Snobar Manzoor, Madiha Javed, Umaisa Jaan, Adeeba Jaan, Rayeesa Zehra, Seerat Jaan, Farha Ahad, Wani Iqra won first ten positions among first five winner were awarded with the Rs 25000, 20000, 15000, 10000, 5000 respectively and from 6th position to 10th position holder were given Rs 2000 each.
In 02 Kms for Specially Challenged (Male), Makhan Lal, Usman Tariq, Abid Bashir, Abid Hussain, Soleh Naseer won first five positions and were awarded with Rs 20000, 15000, 10000, 5000,3000 respectively. 02 Kms for Specially Challenged (Female), Syed Qaasirah, Tawheeda, Ulfat, Sadia, Adleena won first five positions and were awarded with Rs 20000, 15000, 10000, 5000, 3000 respectively.
In 02 Kms run for Fun, Mohd Afnan, Syed Haya Noor, Ghulam Ahmad, Saleema won first four positions and were given consolation awards. In the main attraction raffle Draw, Bicycles worth Rs 20000, 16000, 14000 were given to three lucky winners.
DGP J&K and other officers interacted with the athletes including International Para Basketball player Ma Insha Bashir on the occasion.
