Javid Kitab Elected as new JKCA President

The Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) will finally be run by an elected body after nearly nine years, following a major development in the Supreme Court of India on Wednesday.

In a significant boost for cricket administration in the Union Territory, the Supreme Court vacated the stay on the declaration of JKCA election results after the petitioners withdrew their plea in Writ Petition (Civil) No. 17/2026 titled Youth Cricket Club & Ors. vs Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association & Anr.

The interim order dated January 8, 2026, had allowed the JKCA election process to continue but restrained the declaration of results. With the petition now withdrawn, the Electoral Officer, former Chief Election Commissioner A.K. Joti (IAS Retd.), officially declared the results of the JKCA Elections 2025 on May 21.

As per the official announcement, Javid Ahmed Kitab has been elected as the President of JKCA, while Vivek Khajuria will serve as the Secretary of the association.

The newly-elected office bearers of JKCA are:

  • Javid Ahmed Kitab – President
  • Desh Rattan Dubey – Vice-President
  • Vivek Khajuria – Secretary
  • Wajahat Majeed – Joint Secretary
  • Rajan Singh – Treasurer
  • Anil Kumar Koul – Member, Apex Council
  • Rakesh Koul – Member, Apex Council

Meanwhile, the office of the Accountant General nominated Ankush Kumar, Senior Deputy Accountant General (AMG I/Administration), to the JKCA Apex Council under Rule 22(b)(iii).

The Indian Cricketers’ Association (ICA) also nominated Ankita Jalla and Vikrant Taggar to the JKCA Apex Council under Rule 22(b)(ii).

In its official press release, JKCA thanked the Supreme Court, Electoral Officer, members of the association and stakeholders for ensuring a “fair, transparent and democratic” electoral process.

The association stated that it now looks forward to moving ahead collectively “in the larger interest of cricket in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.”

The development marks the end of a prolonged phase of uncertainty and administrative transition within JKCA, with stakeholders hoping the elected body can now focus on strengthening cricket infrastructure, governance and player development in Jammu & Kashmir.
