Srinagar: Pakistan all-rounde Mohammad Nawaz who starred with both bat and ball against India on Sunday has said that he and Mohammad Rizwan tried to take game as deep as possible.
Mohammad Nawaz promoted up the order scored blazing 20 ball 42 run knock and also took one wicket as Pakistan beat India by five wickets.
“We needed 10 runs per over when I walked in to bat so I knew I had to attack every chance I got. My mind was clear that I’d hit out at every ball in my zone,” Nawaz said in a post match press conference.
“I didn’t try and overplay, which you sometimes can when you’re under pressure,” he said.
“Rizwan and me wanted to maintain the momentum . The idea was to take it as deep as we can, because we have got likes of Asif Ali Khushdil Shah who can achieve 10 to 12 overs per over if needed,” Nawaz said.
When asked about his approach with the ball, Nawaz maintained that he tries to keep things simple.
“For a left-arm spinner, it’s important to stick to the basic line and length. If one or two balls turn, that puts doubt into the batters’ minds. After that, I try and stick to line and length,” said the all-rounder.
