NEW DELHI: Absconding Indian businessman Vijay Mallya has spoken about his presence during the India-Pakistan Champions Trophy match in Edgbaston on Sunday. Mallya was spotted cheering the Indian team from the VIP section and was later spotted with commentator and former Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar, pictures of which emerged on social media on Monday.Malya with gavaskar

Mallya took to twitter to reveal his intention behind being at Edgbaston. His tweet read: “Wide sensational media coverage on my attendance at the IND v PAK match at Edgbaston. I intend to attend all games to cheer the India team.”

Mallya also used the platform to praise Virat Kohli, who was the captain of his once franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore. “World class player World class Captain World class gentleman @imVkohli . Bravo Virat,” his tweet read.

Mallya fled the country in March 2016 after he was exposed as one of the 11 people named in CBI’s charge sheet regarding Kingfisher Airlines’s unpaid loans to IDBI Bank. Mallya owes Indian banks Rs 9,000 crore (with interest) in cases related to embezzlement, debt recovery and foreign exchange transgression.
