Have evidence supporting my innocence: Mohammed Shami

NEW DELHI: Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami, under fire for adultery and fixing claims made by wife Hasin Jahan, has said he has proof regarding his innocence and that he will be “taking the legal route” rather settling matters out of court.Mohammed-Shami_0

“I have evidence to prove my innocence. There is no chance of mending things with my wife, and I am not willing to have an out-of-court settlement, will take legal route,” Shami told a news channel.

Shami found himself in trouble when Jahan alleged that he had extra-marital affairs with women, following which his contract with the BCCI was withheld. More pressure mounted on the fast bowler when Jahan claimed that Shami forced her into having physical relations with his brother and father.

To make matters worse, Jahan alleged that Shami had taken money from a Pakistani woman named Alishba on the insistence of an England-based businessman, Mohammad Bhai, forcing the CoA to ask the ACU (Anti-Corruption Unit) to investigate fixing charges against him.
The latest development in the controversy is that Shami may now not participate in the IPL, where he represents Delhi Daredevils.

“Look, Daredevils management can’t take any unilateral decision in this matter. All players who play in the IPL have a tripartite contract involving the franchise, BCCI and the player. Yes, we are well aware about the sensitive situation and we are having discussions with top BCCI officials. There is a clause about any player bringing disrepute but it is for the lawyers to interpret it,” a senior franchise official had said last Friday.
Regarding Shami’s BCCI contract, until a couple of days ago, the CoA and certain state association members were not in favour of withholding Shami’s central contract. TOI has learned that a cricketer-turned-administrator vehemently argued against the withholding of Shami’s contract at the captains and coaches conclave held two days ago.
