Srinagar: Noted Cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle has put question mark on the role of stay cricketer like Babar Azam, Virat Kohli and others in T20 cricket.
Bhogle explained that while players like KL Rahul, Babar Azam, Virat Kohli, and Jos Buttler are undoubtedly fine batsmen, there are certain scenarios where them playing an anchor role may not be ideal for T20 cricket.
“We have been talking about it over the last 2-3 years; about fine players like KL Rahul, Babar Azam, at times even Virat Kohli & Jos Buttler. My view is that in a 150-160 game, you might consider that [anchor] role but not in a 180-190 game,” Bhogle wrote on Twitter.
Meanwhile Babar, in particular, has faced criticism in the past for his strike rate, with some suggesting that he is too slow to score quickly in certain situations.
“Babar takes time to build his innings and he needs a partner who has a strike rate of 140 plus since the powerplay is important and you have to make full use of it,” Shahid Afridi had said.
“So, strike rate matters a lot in T20 format, and after this PSL, we have players coming up who can build a solid partnership at the top of the order alongside Babar,” he concluded.
