Former cricketer and BJP Member of Lok Sabha from East Delhi, Gautam Gambhir, announced his retirement from politics. He made the announcement on social media and requested BJP Chief JP Nadda to relieve him from his political duties to concentrate on his upcoming cricket commitments.
Gambhir expressed gratitude to PM Narendra Modi HM Amit Shah for the opportunity to serve the people during his time in politics.
“I have requested Hon’ble Party President JP Nadda ji to relieve me of my political duties so that I can focus on my upcoming cricket commitments. I sincerely thank Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi ji and Hon’ble HM Amit Shah ji for giving me the opportunity to serve the people. Jai Hind!” Gambhir tweeted.
Gambhir, who joined BJP in March 2019, played a significant role representing the party in Delhi. He secured victory in the East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency during the 2019 elections, obtaining 55% of the votes.
Transitioning from politics, Gautam Gambhir has recently joined Kolkata Knight Riders as a mentor for the upcoming IPL 2024 season. Prior to this, he served in a similar capacity with the Lucknow Super Giants.
