Evergreen Wiese shine as Namibia beat Oman in Super Over finish

Srinagar: The ever young David Wiese shined as Namibia beat Oman in a super over finish at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados, during the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.

Namibia ended up scoring 109-6 in 20 overs while chasing 110 against Oman.

Namibia needed two runs on the final ball but David Wiese failed to get bat on ball. However, the wicketkeeper wasn’t able to grab the ball cleanly either as Wiese and Malan Kruger ran across and completed the run.

Jan Frylinck scored 45 runs in 48 balls with the help of six fours and was his team’s highest run scorer.

Mehran Khan, who also bowled the final over of the innings, registered superb figures of 3-7 in four overs for Oman.

In the super over, Namibia batted first and scored 21 runs with the help of 13 runs in four balls by Wiese.

Wiese also took the responsibility to bowl the super over and conceded just 10 runs while also picking up a wicket.

Earlier, Namibia won the toss and decided to bowl first against Oman. Batting first, Oman were restricted to only 109 all out in 19.4 overs.

Left-arm pacer Ruben Trumpelmann gave his side the perfect start with back-to-back wickets on the first two balls of the innings as opener Kashyap Prajapati and captain Aqib Ilyas were dismissed without troubling the scorers.

After the disastrous start, Oman failed to recover and kept on losing wickets at regular intervals.

Trumpelmann was the pick of the bowlers for Namibia with figures of 4-21 in four overs.

Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus also bagged impressive figures of 2-20 in four overs. David Wiese also chipped in with three wickets.

Khalid Kail was the top scorer for Oman with 34 runs in 39 balls which included a four and six.
