Cristiano Ronaldo Hints at ‘Emotional’ Retirement: “It Will Be Very, Very Difficult”

London: Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that the end of his remarkable football journey is approaching, revealing he plans to retire “soon.”

Speaking in an emotional interview with Piers Morgan Uncensored, the 40-year-old Portugal and Al Nassr superstar admitted that stepping away from the sport that defined his life will be “very, very difficult.”

“It will be tough, of course. Probably I will cry, yes. I’m an open person,” Ronaldo said. “But I’ve prepared my future since I was 25 or 26. I think I’ll be capable to support that pressure.”

A Glittering Career Nears Its End

Ronaldo — one of football’s most iconic figures — has scored 952 career goals, a tally unmatched in the modern era.

After beginning his career at Sporting Lisbon, he went on to become a global superstar at Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus, winning:

5 Ballon d’Or awards

5 UEFA Champions League titles

3 Premier League crowns

Numerous domestic and international honours

Since joining Al Nassr in 2022, Ronaldo has continued to break records in the Saudi Pro League, cementing his place as one of the greatest athletes in history.

“Football Will Always Be in My Heart”

Despite his readiness for retirement, Ronaldo confessed that nothing will replace the thrill of scoring goals and competing at the highest level.

“Nothing will be able to compare to the adrenaline we have for football,” he said. “But everything has a beginning and an end. I have other passions and want more time for my family.”

The Portuguese legend added that he looks forward to spending more time with his children — particularly Cristiano Jr. and Mateo, who both share his love for football — and even indulging in new hobbies like playing Padel with friends.

On Manchester United and Ruben Amorim

Ronaldo also reflected on Manchester United, the club where he rose to international fame. While expressing his continued affection for the team, he offered a candid view of its current struggles under manager Ruben Amorim, his former Portugal teammate.

“He’s doing his best. But miracles are impossible,” Ronaldo remarked. “Manchester United will always be in my heart, but they’re not on the right path. It’s not just about the coach — there’s more that needs to change.”

Legacy of a Living Legend

As Ronaldo prepares for the final chapter of his career, fans around the world are bracing for an emotional farewell to one of football’s greatest icons.

From Lisbon to Riyadh, from Old Trafford to the Bernabéu, Cristiano Ronaldo’s name will forever be synonymous with greatness, discipline, and unrelenting passion for the beautiful game.
