Srinagar: Around 800 to 1,000 female cyclists from across India are expected to participate in the ASMITA MTB Cycling State/UT Women League, scheduled to be held at Nishat in Srinagar on September 18 and 19, 2026.
The event is being organised under the ASMITA initiative of the Cycling Federation of India (CFI) in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Cycling Association and the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
The large-scale participation is expected to make the Srinagar league one of the biggest women-only mountain biking events to be held in the region, providing female cyclists an opportunity to compete at a high level and gain exposure to competitive racing.
The event is being conducted as part of efforts to promote women’s participation in sports and encourage young athletes to pursue cycling at the grassroots level.
Linked with the broader Khelo India sporting framework, the ASMITA league is aimed at creating greater opportunities for women athletes and identifying emerging talent from different parts of the country.
For many young cyclists, the Srinagar event will provide an opportunity to compete against riders from other states and Union Territories while gaining valuable experience in mountain biking competition.
The picturesque surroundings of Nishat, Srinagar, are expected to provide the setting for the two-day competition, with organisers and local authorities working on arrangements related to the competition venue, athlete movement and safety.
The event also comes at a time when women’s participation in cycling is expanding across India, with more athletes taking up mountain biking and other cycling disciplines at the competitive level.
With an expected participation of up to 1,000 female riders, the ASMITA MTB Cycling State/UT Women League in Srinagar is set to put the spotlight on women’s mountain biking while providing a platform for emerging cyclists to compete and gain national-level exposure.
