KARACHI: Chief Selector of the Pakistan cricket team, Inzamam-ul-Haq said on Monday that if former skipper Shahid Afridi performed well and if the team was in need of his inclusion, then he would be selected again.
Speaking with Usama Ghazi and Huma Amir Shah at Geo Pakistan, Inzamam said that Shahid Afridi could make it back into the T-20 squad if he performed well and if the team required his services.
“If Afridi puts in a good performance and the team requires him, he will certainly be selected for the national squad,” said Inzamam. “Age is not a factor, whether the team is in need of his skills is. Misbah is above 40 yet he is still playing for Pakistan so why can’t Afridi?” he added.
The former Pakistan cricket captain and current chief selector also said that Mohammad Amir had also not performed as well as the whole team and management was expecting of him, during the recent series against England and New Zealand. However, Inzi said that Amir had returned to international cricket after five years and it would take a certain amount of time for the pacer to settle in and give a consistent performance.
Regarding Azhar Ali, Inzamam said that the ODI captain should seek guidance from Younis Khan, who is a senior member in the team.
“Younis Khan can guide Azhar Ali really well,” said Inzamam.
