The marathon girl of Kashmir, Insha Wadoo was felicitated for her achievements in the felid of the athletics and cycling in a function held in Ludhiana, Punjab.
Insha Wadoo who is well known long distance athlete and cyclist of Kashmir was invited by Noble Foundation, Punjab for its award ceremony held at Guru Nanak Bhawan, Ludhiana, Punjab.
Punjab Local Bodies and Tourism minister Navjot Singh Sidhu was the chief guest on the occasion and he awarded the achievers on the occasions.
On the occasion Insha was awarded rupees 30,000 by the Noble Foundation. However, her surprise award came from the chief guest and former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu who impressed with her accolades and humble background awarded her rupees one lakh.
“I was invited by the foundation as part their function in which they awarded women achievers of country. They had seen my interviews on various channels and also on internet. That had impressed them and I got the invite and the award,” Insha said.
“I only had two minute talk with Sidhu sir and he without giving much of a thought announced award of rupees one lakh for me. He was impressed with my achievements and hardships.
It was like a shock for me to hear in such a way by the star like Sidhu. Back home in Kashmir I have been from one door to another door for the help but none came forward,” she said.
Insha Wadoo is well known marathon runner and cyclist of Kashmir and over the years she has won numerous events all over State. She has also represented State in National athletic events and also finished on podium during Big FM international marathon event held in Srinagar. Currently Insha is pursuing her Bachelors in Physical Degree at Government Physical Education College Ganderbal.
Insha said that in Kashmir there is no support for the athletes like her and over the years no one has supported her.
“I have running and winning and still none helped me. Even it was after tough battle with the authorities I was able to represent State at National level. It is irony that Punjab recognized by achievements while as my home State did not cared about it,” she said.
“I am looking forward to meet Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and apprise her about the hardships faced by players like me in state,” Insha added. ( Source Greater Kashmir )
