PCB contacts British lawyers to finalise case against BCCI

KARACHI: In an attempt to finalise the legal proceedings against Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Pakistan Cricket Board has initiated contacts with British lawyers.india-pakistan

A top PCB official will travel to London on Wednesday to meet and consult legal experts in the UK to finalise the case against Indian board for breach of contract with PCB.

In 2014, BCCI signed a MoU with PCB to play six cricket series between 2015 and 2022 but didn’t honour its commitment till date, testing patience of PCB.

However, the PCB has now announced to take formal legal action against the BCCI at every forum, including the ICC and CAS to seek compensation for losses it suffered due to India’s continuous refusal of playing series with Pakistan.

“Two of those six [series] have already fallen through; it does not look like the third one will happen either. So, we are left with no option but to pursue legal action against India,” Shahryar Khan had said last week.

He added that India’s refusal to play the series in Pakistan in 2014 had cost the PCB around a million dollars.

The sources in PCB has told Geo.tv that PCB’s General Manager Legal Salman Naseer along with Ahmad Hussain, is travelling to England early Wednesday.

“Salman Naseer will have various meetings England in connection with the spot-fixing matter and the breach of contract by BCCI,” a source told Geo.tv.

The source confirmed that Salman will meet British legal experts to prepare Pakistan’s case and PCB was already in contact with these UK based legal experts.

According to sources, PCB will first send a legal notice to BCCI and will formally present a case in this month’s ICC meeting.

If it does not provide a fruitful result, then the Pakistan Cricket Board will go to the international court of justice, may be the CAS.

“PCB isn’t going to buy any excuse on the issue as it has already suffered a lot due to BCCI’s attitude and the board is very firm on resolving the matter once for all,” the source added.
