In a bizarre decision, J&K State sports Council has outsourced mega Under-17 cricket event under Khelo-India project to Delhi Public school Srinagar.
The project that is of around rupees 75-lkah has been awarded DPS for organizing without any proper justification. Despite claiming to have all the machinery in the State to implement its sports projects Sports Council seem to expressed its inability to conduct the cricket event.
“It is cricket project under Khelo-India with the cost of around Rupees 75-Lakhs. It is big project and it would be conducted by DPS Srinagar in collaboration with Sports Council,” said a Sports Council official.
The DPS Srinagar has also released official statement regarding the event without specifying the project estimate. However it does mention that event will involve 320 teams, 4800 players from around the valley.
Delhi Public School, Srinagar in collaboration with Jammu & Kashmir State Sports Council is organizing a junior cricket championship for boys in the category U-17, a DPS statement read.
The statement further states that the event is going to be the first of its kind in the valley. We aim at identifying sports talent at grass root levels by conducting matches in all the blocks of Kashmir and providing a fair chance to all cricket enthusiasts to showcase their talent on a bigger platform.
Registrations from all interested schools are invited for participation. The participating teams will go through various levels of competition to reach the final level which will be held in Delhi Public School, DPS statement said.
The statement added that the joint organizers of the event intend to cater to 320 teams hailing from every nook and corner of the Valley, consisting of 4800 players and plan to conduct 319 matches. The winning teams will be awarded with decent cash prizes apart from getting recognition at state level.
A sports follower without making himself said that they are first time seeing an educational institute submitting project for the organising of sports activity and then the sports body instead of organizing it itself granting it with huge project cost.
