Yuvraj Singh Joins Delhi Capitals Coaching Staff Ahead of IPL 2027
Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has been appointed Assistant and Batting Coach of Delhi Capitals, taking up his first formal coaching role in the Indian Premier League ahead of the 2027 season.
Delhi Capitals have added considerable international experience to their coaching setup with the appointment of former India star Yuvraj Singh as Assistant and Batting Coach ahead of IPL 2027.
The franchise, jointly owned by JSW and GMR, has brought the 44-year-old into its support staff, hoping to benefit from his vast playing experience, winning mentality and ability to guide emerging cricketers.
Yuvraj was a key member of the Indian teams that won the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup in 2007 and the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011. His appointment marks a new phase in his cricketing career, as he moves into a formal coaching position after years of mentoring established and young Indian players.
The former all-rounder will work with Delhi Capitals’ batting unit and contribute to the franchise’s preparations for the upcoming IPL campaign.
Yuvraj Singh Returns to Delhi Capitals
Yuvraj’s appointment also brings him back to a franchise he represented during the 2015 IPL season, when Delhi Capitals were known as Delhi Daredevils.
Delhi acquired his services for ₹16 crore at the 2015 auction, making him the most expensive player in IPL history at the time. He went on to feature in all 14 matches for the franchise that season.
His return more than a decade later comes in a different capacity, with the former India international now tasked with sharing his experience and helping players develop their skills.
Yuvraj’s background in international cricket, where he delivered several match-winning performances under pressure, could prove valuable to Delhi’s batting group as the franchise looks to build a competitive squad for IPL 2027.
His experience across formats and his understanding of high-pressure tournaments are expected to add depth to the coaching staff.
Parth Jindal, Kiran Kumar Grandhi Welcome Yuvraj
Delhi Capitals chairman and co-owner Parth Jindal welcomed Yuvraj to the franchise, describing him as one of India’s greatest match-winners.
Jindal highlighted the former cricketer’s experience, competitive mindset and ability to connect with younger players, expressing confidence that his presence would benefit the squad.
He also noted that Yuvraj’s return was a special moment for the franchise and looked forward to seeing him work alongside Sourav Ganguly and the rest of the coaching staff.
Kiran Kumar Grandhi, co-owner of Delhi Capitals and founder of GMR Sports, also expressed confidence in the appointment.
Grandhi pointed to Yuvraj’s distinguished playing career, competitive spirit and deep understanding of cricket, saying his knowledge and mentoring abilities could make a significant contribution to the team.
The franchise believes his involvement will help players benefit from the experience of someone who has competed and succeeded at the highest level of international cricket.
Yuvraj Singh Looks Forward to New Coaching Chapter
Yuvraj expressed excitement about beginning his coaching journey with Delhi Capitals, describing the opportunity as a special one because of his longstanding association with the franchise’s owners.
He also welcomed the chance to work alongside Sourav Ganguly, popularly known as Dada, in a coaching capacity.
Yuvraj said coaching was a field he was passionate about and that he was eager to begin working with Delhi’s talented squad.
His appointment gives him an opportunity to pass on lessons from a career filled with major international titles, memorable performances and experience in some of cricket’s biggest tournaments.
Although this will be his first formal coaching assignment in the IPL, Yuvraj has been involved in mentoring several established and emerging Indian cricketers in recent years.
His transition into the coaching setup will now allow him to contribute more directly to player development and team preparation.
Yuvraj’s Glorious International and IPL Career
Yuvraj represented India in 304 One-Day Internationals, 40 Tests and 58 T20 Internationals during his international career.
He played a pivotal role in India’s triumph at the 2007 T20 World Cup, producing one of the tournament’s most iconic moments when he struck six sixes in an over against England’s Stuart Broad.
Four years later, he was among India’s standout performers in the 2011 ODI World Cup, contributing with both bat and ball as the team lifted the trophy on home soil. His all-round performances earned him the Player of the Tournament award.
Yuvraj also enjoyed an extensive IPL career, playing 132 matches, scoring 2,750 runs and claiming 36 wickets. He represented multiple franchises during his time in the competition, bringing versatility as a left-handed batter and left-arm spinner.
These achievements underline the experience he will bring to Delhi Capitals as he begins his coaching career.
With IPL 2027 approaching, Yuvraj’s appointment represents a significant addition to the franchise’s support staff. Delhi will hope his experience, tactical understanding and ability to mentor players can help strengthen the team’s batting and improve its prospects in the upcoming season.
