Hubballi: The BCCI has taken strict disciplinary action against Jammu and Kashmir captain Paras Dogra, fining him 50 percent of his match fee for an on-field altercation involving Karnataka substitute fielder KV Aneesh during Day 2 of the Ranji Trophy Final on Wednesday.
The incident occurred when Dogra, after edging a delivery from Prasidh Krishna for a streaky boundary, confronted the silly-point fielder Aneesh and appeared to head-butt him on the helmet. The unexpected act stunned players and spectators alike, forcing immediate intervention from Karnataka senior batter Mayank Agarwal, who stepped in to defuse the situation.
On-field umpires Rohan Pandit and Ulhas Gandhe promptly intervened, while Karnataka captain Devdutt Padikkal was also seen discussing the incident with match officials. Though the exact trigger for the confrontation remains unclear, the moment quickly escalated before being brought under control.
According to a Cricbuzz report, the 21-season Ranji Trophy veteran has been fined 50% of his match fees. An official confirmation from BCCI match referee Narayanan Kutty is expected after the conclusion of the match. Physical confrontation on the field typically attracts disciplinary sanctions and may also invite further review.
Despite the controversy, Dogra produced a gritty knock of 70, though his innings was overshadowed by the disciplinary breach.
