Lahore: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) are reportedly holding advanced discussions regarding a bilateral three-match T20I series ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The global event, featuring 20 teams, is expected to run from February 8 to March 7 across multiple venues in India and Sri Lanka.
According to sources, both boards are close to finalising the details of the series, which is tentatively scheduled for January 8 to 12, with all matches to be played at the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium.
The other major Sri Lankan venues — the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo and the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium — will be unavailable during this period due to ongoing renovation and upgrade work ahead of next year’s T20 World Cup. As a result, SLC has also postponed the sixth edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL), originally slated for the November-December window.
A Pakistan–Sri Lanka T20I series just weeks before the ICC event would serve as crucial preparation for the Green Shirts, especially since Pakistan are expected to play all their World Cup fixtures in Sri Lanka under the Hybrid Model — a venue-sharing arrangement agreed upon for Pakistan–India ICC tournaments.
Meanwhile, Pakistan are currently hosting Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in a T20I tri-series at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, running until November 29. Pakistan have already secured a spot in the final after wins over both visiting sides.
