RAWALPINDI: Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza added another historic achievement to his glittering career on Thursday, becoming only the second Zimbabwean bowler to take 100 wickets in men’s T20 Internationals.
Raza reached the landmark during Zimbabwe’s T20I tri-series clash against Sri Lanka at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium when he bowled Kamindu Mendis for nine in his third over.
The veteran all-rounder now joins teammate Richard Ngarava, who leads Zimbabwe’s T20I wicket charts with 106 wickets, as the only two bowlers from the country to reach the century mark.
Most T20I Wickets for Zimbabwe
Richard Ngarava – 106 wickets in 89* matches
Sikandar Raza – 100 wickets in 125* matches
Blessing Muzarabani – 93 wickets in 83 matches
Luke Jongwe – 66 wickets in 65 matches
Tendai Chatara – 65 wickets in 60 matches
Raza also joined one of the rarest clubs in men’s T20I cricket. He is now just the third player in history to score 1,000+ runs and take 100 wickets, placing him alongside Shakib Al Hasan and Mohammad Nabi.
Elite T20I All-Rounders (1,000+ runs & 100+ wickets)
Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh) – 2551 runs, 149 wickets
Mohammad Nabi (Afghanistan) – 2417 runs, 104 wickets
Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe) – 2823 runs, 100 wickets
Raza’s milestone wicket came in a winning cause, as Zimbabwe sealed a commanding 65-run victory. Defending 162/8, the home side bowled out Sri Lanka for just 95 runs in 20 overs.
Zimbabwe’s total was powered by Brian Bennett’s steady 49, supported by a fiery 47 off 32 balls from Sikandar Raza, who once again led from the front with both bat and ball.
