New Delhi, Nov 11:Jammu and Kashmir scripted a golden chapter in its cricketing history on Tuesday, defeating Delhi by seven wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium — their first-ever Ranji Trophy victory against Delhi in 65 years of the competition.
Chasing a target of 179 runs, J&K openers set the tone, but it was Qamran Iqbal who stood tall with a career-best unbeaten 133, guiding his team to a commanding and composed finish.
The memorable triumph was built on a series of all-round performances. Auqib Nabi led the charge in Delhi’s first innings with a devastating spell of 5 for 35, while captain Paras Dogra anchored J&K’s response with a gritty 106. Explosive batter Abdul Samad added a fluent 86, ensuring J&K maintained the upper hand throughout.
In the second innings, when Delhi attempted a late fightback, young sensation Vanshaj Sharma produced a match-turning spell, claiming 6 for 68, while Abid Mushtaq Lotra chipped in with 3 for 73 to seal the deal.
This win marks J&K’s second outright victory of the season, further cementing its reputation as one of the most improved teams in Indian domestic cricket. The side has, in recent years, registered memorable wins over heavyweights such as Mumbai, Baroda, Rajasthan, and Vidarbha.
With this triumph, Jammu and Kashmir move to second place in the Elite Group D standings, just behind leaders Mumbai — a testament to the team’s consistent rise under Dogra’s leadership.
