New York: Wrestling icon John Cena has officially completed his legendary career milestone by becoming a Grand Slam Champion after capturing the Intercontinental Championship on Monday Night Raw. Cena defeated Dominik Mysterio in a surprise title match, cementing his name further in WWE history.
The Intercontinental Championship was the only title missing from Cena’s illustrious resume, making this victory a historic moment in his two-decade-long career. Following the match, WWE executive and legend Triple H congratulated Cena on social media, calling him the “GOAT (Greatest of All Time).”
Unplanned Title Match Before Survivor Series
Originally, the Intercontinental Championship match between Cena and Mysterio was scheduled for the upcoming WWE Survivor Series Premium Live Event later this month. However, Monday’s edition of Raw turned into an unadvertised title showdown, shocking fans worldwide as Cena pulled off yet another career-defining victory.
Cena’s Final Run Before Retirement
This landmark achievement comes just weeks before John Cena’s retirement match, set for December 13 at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. The farewell match will mark the end of an era for one of WWE’s greatest ever superstars.
To determine his final opponent, Cena has launched the “Last Time Is Now” Tournament, a 16-man competition featuring wrestlers from Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and even a few surprise non-contracted names.
So far, Rusev advanced by defeating Damian Priest in the first round, while Sheamus is set to face Shinsuke Nakamura later in the tournament.
A Storied Legacy of Championships
Since debuting in 2002, John Cena has built one of the most decorated careers in WWE history. His record includes:
17-time World Champion (a record-tying mark with Ric Flair)
5-time United States Champion
4-time Tag Team Champion
2-time Royal Rumble Winner
And now, Intercontinental Champion, completing his Grand Slam legacy
With the Intercontinental Title finally added to his list of accolades, Cena’s career comes full circle — ending with the one title he had never held.
