Srinagar: The 9th National SnowShoe Championship-2025 successfully concluded at Sonamarg on Tuesday.
The two day mega wintersport event saw participation of around 110 athletes representing around 15-17 States from all over Country.
MLA Kangan, Mian Mehr Ali was chief guest at the concluding ceremony and distributed prizes amoung the medals amoung the winners. Tourism Officer Sonamarg Basharat Ahmed, SHO Sonamarg, renowed athlete Reyaz Wani, were amoung other guests present.
MLA Kangan hailed event as one that is going to break boundaries and bring Sonamarg on Wintersport map of Country.
“I am too happy to see so many athletes coming from almost every part of Country competing in Sonamarg. It is going to help Sonamarg emerge as Wintersport destination,” Mehr Ali said.
“We have plans for Sonamarg and in future it will be premier wintersport destination. Events like this help to turn it into reality and we are thankfull to all of you for making this possible,” he said.
It was second time ever that National SnowShoe Championship was held in Sonamarg after last year it hosted 8th National SnowShoe Championship.
The event was organised by J&K SnowShoe Association in colaboration with Department of Tourism, Kashmir under the auspices of SnowShoe Federation of India.
MLA Kangan said that he will make sure that next year SnowShoe Champipnship would be held in Sonamarg on a grand scale and assured all the help to organisers.
“For next year, I assure you all the support from my end and stakeholders. Next year we will be holding National SnowShoe Championship on much larger scale at Sonamarg. This activitu is closely related to Tourism sector and it will help Tourism in Sonamarg,” he said.
SnowShoe Federation of India President Mir Mudassir thanked MLA Kangan for the support and assured his full coperation for the future.
“On behalf of SnowShoe Federation of India, I assure full support to Sonamarg. We have already hosted two National Championships in Sonamarg and will continue our support for the future. It is one of the best destination for the wintersport and athletes are loving it,” Mir Mudassir said.
“SnowShoe doesnt require any infrastructure development and can be held anywhere. It is the most affordable wintersport discipline,” he added.
On the concluding day of the event, sprint and relay competition were held in Junior and Senior categories in both male and female sections.
