Srinagar: The first phase of 4th Khelo India Winter Games 2024 has started in Leh, Ladakh with Karnataka on top of medal tally at the end of Day 2.
The 4th Khelo India Winter Games 2024 is being conducted in two phases with first, from February 2 to 6, held in Leh, Ladakh while the second is scheduled from February 21 to 25, in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir.
KIWG 2024 is the fourth edition of the multi-sport winter competition
All three previous editions, in 2020, 2021 and 2023, were hosted and won by Jammu and Kashmir.
In the Ladakh leg of the competition, a total of 344 athletes, representing 15 states and Union Territories and two public institutions will compete for medals in two sports – ice hockey and speed skating.
The remaining sports – ski mountaineering, alpine skiing, snowboarding and Nordic skiing – are being held in Gulmarg, where 361 more athletes will compete.
Co-hosts Jammu and Kashmir, who topped the Khelo India Winter Games 2023 medal table with 26 gold medals, 25 silver and 25 bronze, are the reigning KIWG champions.
Services, Karnataka and Maharashtra finished runner-ups in the last three editions, respectively.
