Srinagar: The lacksidal attitude, favoritism and hope of no scope in skiing had forced the Judo star, Kabra Altaf to opt for Judo at an early stage of her sports career.
This was revealed by Kabra in an email to KSW in response to her story done by the KSW. Kabra in the email also revealed that she had self sponsored her skiing career and now the judo career.
Kabra had recently bagged gold medal for State in the National School Games in Judo. Before that she had bagged two bronze medals and also was selected for India camp. However after that she suffered career threatening Knee Injury. Had to undergo surgery and rehabilitation process.
“I am thankful to you for publishing my Judo gold medal news on KSW. Before joining Judo, I was two times national gold medalist in skiing,” Kabra revealed.
“I did my basic course in January 2010 , intermediate course in March 2010,advance course in Feb 2011, Refresher course in 2011. After all I completed all my courses from IISM Gulmarg with position and A+ grade. I bagged silver medal in slalom National Alpine ski championship 2013. I also bagged silver medal in National Alpine ski championship in giant slalom 2013. Gold medal in ski championship in 2012 March. Bronze medal in Gondola cup in 2012,” Kabra said.
Kabra revealed that she had participated in more than 5 national events in Skiing and also bagged gold medal in International trial held at Gulmarg.
“I was also selected for International level competition which was to b held in Korea. But unfortunately Winter Games Federation of India that is headed by Kashmiri people have sent other students instead of selected players. Neither had they bothered to call us for National cup in which I was selected,” she said.
Kabra had managed to get her own costly equipment for the skiing and now for Judo without the support from any sponsor. Only her parents supported her.
“I left skiing because of many reasons there was no scope in skiing. That was the big reason I decided to join judo sport and left skiing. I had arranged all the equipment in skiing that is too expensive and Judo by myself in both games till date,” she added
