Srinagar: Pakistan cricket team skipper Babar Azam has set his eyes on winning two World cups for Pakistan in next 18 months.
Babar Azam has been leading Pakistan from the front as he has firmly established himself as the best batter in ODI cricket.
During the recent series against the West Indies, he became the first batter in the history of the game to score 3 successive hundreds on more than one occasion.
“No doubt I am enjoying my form. But with this form, my prime goal is to win the two World Cups for Pakistan in the next one-and-a-half years and if that happens I will feel that my runs are worth gold,” Babar Azam told AFP news agency.
Pakistan have won the T20 World Cup in 2009 while they won the ODI World Cup last in 1992 under their former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Pakistan are warming up to the T20 World Cup in 2022 and the 50-over World Cup in 2023 with some fine results in the shorter formats of the game.
On Monday, Pakistan rose to the 5th spot, leapfrogging India, after completing a 3-0 win over West Indies at home, which came months after they defeated Australia at home.
“When I started playing cricket as a schoolboy the target was to play international cricket for Pakistan, become the world’s top batsman in such a manner that it helps my team to win all the titles,” he said.
“I was crazy about cricket in my childhood and noticing that passion my father backed me,” he added.
