Srinagar, March 17: In the ongoing Prof. Yousuf Memorial cricket cup being played at Islamia College play field, KU Institute of Technology Zakura Campus defeated G D C Sopore in a low scoring encounter in super over by four runs.
At the start the players of both the teams were introduced to Prof. Shiekh Ajaz Bashir the Principal and Dr. Shamim Ah. Shamim Convenor Sports ICSC. After winning the toss the I O T captain invited Sopore team to bat first on matting wicket. With the help of 30 runs from Iqbal and 24 by Aakash they scored 118 runs in 20.5 overs. For IOT Zahid took 4 and Musa took 3 wickets. Chasing a soft target of 119 runs IOT batsmen made a mess of it and whole team could hardly equal the score in 20.5 losing all the wickets. Imran Haji contributed with 44 and Aqib Gul 13 runs. Sahil took 4, Sajan Iqbal and Adnan took 2 wickets each. The innings ended in a tie as such had to be decided in a super over in which the IOT Zakura campus won by 4 runs. Imran Haji of IOT was adjudged the man of the match. On 18th March Thursday GDC Pulwama is facing the challenge of newly formed GDC Iddgah. The tournament is being organised by Department of Physical Education Islamia College Srinagar in memory of Ex Principal of the College late Prof. Mohammed Yousuf.
