Bandipora, July 16: An all-round performance by Mohammad Manzir Thursday handed Bandipora Gymkhana a big win against Watrina in the ongoing T20 league at Patushay.
The Sopore-born cricketer, who has represented J&K U-16 and U-19 levels, first scored vital cameo of 25 runs before scalping as many as 7 wickets for Bandipora side.
Earlier, after finding luck in the coin-toss, Watrina chose to bowl first. However, the move didn’t go well as Gymkhana got off to a blazing start, thanks to come stroke-making by Ishtiyaq Robby.
The batting epitome made quickfire 21 runs before departing to the pavilion. The onus was now on young Manzir and Zubair Yahya. Both played exceptionally well to take thier team to a comfortable position.
Zubair made 27 while as Manzir struck 25. Lastly, it was Imran Haji and Arif, who did the finishing job. The former made vital 24 runs while latter finsihed with 18 runs.
Gymkhana made an above par total of 183 runs.
In reply, Watrina got exactly the start they wanted. They scored huge 30 runs in the first 2 overs. However, as the game progressed, they lost the touch.
The spin-duo of Taufeeq and Manzir kept it tight, making Watrina go for big shots. This led to their collapse as wickets kept falling one after another.
Manzir was the wrecker-in-chief, taking a 7-wicket-haul. Watrina could only make 106 runs, handing Bandipora Gymkhana a big win of 77 runs.
Manzir, for his flamboyant performance, bagged the man of the match award.
