Srinagar, July 5: Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association on Friday formulated the selection procedure for the upcoming national season.
In a meeting held by JKCA CEO, Ashiq Hussain Bukhari with district coordinators at its Srinagar office, it was decided that the trials will start from the district-level in the next week among junior and senior groups. The juniors will comprise of players falling in U-14, 16 and 19 age-group while senior category will include the players above 19 years of age.
The selectors, who have been given the job to identify the players in the ongoing Talent Hunt 40-over tournament, will monitor these district-level open trials and come up with a 15-member list each in senior and junior categories. In these trials, not only the skill of players but fitness will also be taken into consideration, following a proper fitness test.
These 15 will then go on for Zonal-level trials, wherein the selected players from three districts will compete with each other. In this process, overall 15 players will be further taken up among the 45. These 15 will then attend a camp and play trial matches with other zones.
It is in these trial matches where best among the lot will be chosen for the national tournaments. Throwing more light on this process, one of the district coordinators told KSW,
“It was a good step to hold this meeting. We discussed in detail the selection process and came up with a rigid process, which will hopefully help us find the best players for the national outings.”
“The trial process will begin immediately, most probably from next week.”
