Former Indian skipper, M S Dhoni, has said that lack of infrastructure and facilities in sports is the main reason for lesser participation of Kashmir youth in national and international tournaments.
Dhoni was speaking to media at Kunzer Tangmarg during the grand finale of Chinar Cricket Premier League 2017. The finale organised by Army was held at local cricket ground on Srinagar-Gulmarg highway.
“I visited many places, interacted with a good number of people and I found them very much talented. But the only reason where the youth of Kashmir lack is proper infrastructure and facilities. They need proper coaches and trainers who can lead them towards good future,” said Dhoni.
The former India captain said that the BCCI was “doing well to promote the game across the country but needs to do more in case of Kashmir.”
Wearing an army jersey Dhoni, who also holds an honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel, attended the final of Chinar Cricket Premier League as a chief guest.
The grand finale of Chinar Cricket Premier League 2017 was played between the teams of North and South Kashmir at Kunzer Cricket Ground in Budgam where the South Kashmir team won the final match.
India’s 2011 World Cup captain, while refusing to comment on political nature of Kashmir, said, “I am associated with cricket, so you better ask me questions related to sports only.”
Dhoni said that people outside Kashmir think that Kashmiris “hate India but I felt good after watching these enthusiastic players and spectators here in this ground.”
Thousands from Kunzer and its adjacent areas participated in the grand finale. They shook hands with Dhoni and took selfies at the end of grand finale.
