18* off 71 balls, 121/8 in 50 overs: This is J&K senior women cricket team

In a pathetic show of cricket by J&K senior women’s cricket team, they played so slow that they were able to score only 121 runs for the loss of eight wickets allotted 50 overs while chasing a target of 253 against Jharkhandh.

Playing a senior women’s one-day league match at Cuttack against Jharkhandh, J&K senior cricket once again displayed the skills that put question mark on their selection. In pathetic show while chasing 253 run target J&K scored extra slow 121/8 in 50 overs with a run rate of 2.42 which is even slower than today’s Test cricket. During their whole run chase there was not even a single effort to go after it. It seemed J&K never wanted to win it. Opener Bushra Ashraf remained not out on 18 from 76 balls and that sends a message what J&K wanted.

She played close to T20 inning and remained unbeaten and her strike never jumped above 25 . Such was her miserable inning that had scored no run in first 33 balls at top of the order.

Apart from few players no one in team showed intent to chase the total. It looked desperate attempt of throwing away a match. For J&K only intent shown was by Meenu Singh Slathia who scored 36  off 71 balls with strike rate of around 50.

It is pathetic state of cricket where in there have been various allegations of favoritism and frauds. It is also puts raises a suspicion, about match fixing and J&K just gave away match.

There needs to be inquiry into the incident and J&K Cricket Association and even BCCI should look into it.
