“10 Kilo Khoon Kam Ho Gaya”: Sachin Tendulkar’s Emotional Tribute As Bollywood Icon Dharmendra Passes Away At 89

Mumbai: Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar penned a deeply emotional tribute on Monday after the death of Bollywood icon Dharmendra, who passed away at the age of 89. Recalling their warm personal bond, Sachin shared how the legendary actor’s infectious charm always lifted his spirits.

Tendulkar revealed that Dharmendra affectionately told him, “Tumko dekhkar ek kilo khoon badh jaata hai mera” — a line that stayed with him for years. Reflecting on the loss, the former India captain wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Aisa lagta hai jaise mera 10 kilo khoon kam ho gaya hai.”

“Like millions, I instantly became a fan of Dharmendra ji—the actor who entertained us with his versatility. But the man behind the screen was even more special. His warmth made everyone feel valued. His energy was infectious,” Sachin wrote, mourning the passing of a “truly lovable person.”

Virat Kohli Also Pays Respect

Indian cricket star Virat Kohli also shared a heartfelt message, calling Dharmendra a “true icon” whose contribution to cinema inspired generations.

“Today, we have lost a legend of Indian cinema who captivated hearts with his charm and talent. My sincere condolences to the family,” Kohli posted.

Dharmendra’s Final Days

The veteran actor had recently been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai after suffering breathing complications and was placed on a ventilator. Although he showed signs of improvement and was discharged to continue recovery at home in Juhu, he passed away shortly after.

A Cinematic Journey That Shaped Indian Film History

Born in Punjab in 1935, Dharmendra rose to fame after winning the Filmfare Talent Hunt in 1958 — the same contest that would later introduce Rajesh Khanna to cinema. His natural charm, rugged looks and emotional depth quickly made him one of the most loved stars in India.

With blockbusters across romance, drama, action and comedy, Dharmendra’s range was unmatched.

Phool Aur Patthar (1966) established him as a leading man.

Sholay (1975) immortalised him as the unforgettable Veeru, a role etched in Indian pop culture forever.

His contributions to cinema earned him the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian honour.

Tributes Pour in Across Borders

The love for Dharmendra extended far beyond India. Former Pakistan cricket captain Rashid Latif also paid homage, calling him a “global legend” admired throughout the subcontinent.

“Dharmendra ji was a legendary hero. Sholay remains an all-time classic. He had an immense fan base in Pakistan as well. My deepest condolences,” Latif told IANS.

A Legacy That Lives Forever

Dharmendra leaves behind a body of work that shaped Indian cinema for more than six decades and a fan base that spans borders and generations. His charm, warmth and towering screen presence ensure that his legacy will remain timeless.
