Srinagar, July 6: Former Pakistan opener Saeed Anwar is known as one of the stylist batsman to have ever stepped foot on the cricket field. He has many admirers and every now and then some of the cricket greats praise Anwar for his touch, class and style.
Latest to join amoung the admirers of former Pakistan great is India’s spin genius Ravichandran Ashwin who has said that he watched Saeed Anwar’s record 194 run knock live at MA Chidambaram Stadium and has watched it 100 times in highlights.
Ashwin while reacting to video on Twitter of Anwar’s century against England at The Oval in 1996, recalled that he later watched that innings 100 more times on highlights.
“Watched his 194 live at Chepauk and a few 100 more times on highlights.” Ashwin tweeted.
A fan question Ashwin about the quality of innings as Anwar used runner for the majority of his innings on which he replied. “Batsmen were never given out lbw if they plonked their foot on the front foot then, can we erase all the runs that were made by batters then?? Not a fair judgement, Saeed Anwar’s batting was a treat to the eye.”
Saeed Anwar’s 194 was the highest score by a batsman in an ODI inning back then. Sachin Tendulkar broke the record against South Africa in 2010 by scoring first-ever double hundred in the format.
Anwar’s 146-ball innings included 22 fours and five massive sixes.
