Watch: ‘Weird’ journalist asking Babar Azam, you scored ‘laziest’ century

In a bizarre incident that may question the wisdom of this sports journalist, a journalist after Pakistan’s cricket world cup loss to Afghanistan asked Babar Azam that later scored laziest century.

In the match against Afghanistan on May 24, Babar Azam scored a brilliant century-112 in 108 balls and added 103 runs with Shoaib Malik (44), helping Pakistan reach 262 in 47.5 overs.

However, the total was not enough as Afghan batsmen, especially Hazratullah Zazai (49) and Hashmatullah Shahidi (74*) took on the Pak bowlers and made sure Afghanistan registered a comfortable win in the last over.

Babar Azam was lauded for his century but in the post-match press conference, he was asked a very bizarre question by a journalist. The press person asked Babar whether he had scored the laziest of centuries in the history of the game and that too on a dead pitch.

Babar Azam was not just ready to take it and said, “Sir, you may think so but I play according to the plan the team sets for me. I don’t play for myself. This is not my team. This is Pakistan team for which I play. My job was to build partnership. If I had also gone out, even this much total would not have been possible.”

The journalist has been lashed out by his fellow journalist who have termed it irresponsible and illogical question and putting Babar Azam under undue pressure before World Cup.

Senior Pakistan journalist Saj Sadiq while tweeting about wrote, “Babar Azam: 112 off 108 balls

Strike Rate of 103. 10 other Pakistani batsmen: 147/9 off 179 balls Strike Rate of 82. Journalist to Babar Azam “You made the laziest century in the history of cricket and play for yourself”
