Wasim Akram shocked to know Shaheen Afridi doing treatment on his own expenses, Ramiz Raja clarifies

Srinagar: Former Pakistan cricket team skipper Wasim Akram has said that it is shocking to hear that Shaheen Shah Afridi is doing treatment on his own expenses without any help from Pakistan Cricket Board.
PCB meanwhile has clarified and said that they are taking care of the pacer and PCB chief Ramiz Raja has also clarified on the issue.

“If this is true, this is really shocking. He is one of our top players, he is box-office. If PCB do not look after this kid, and if this is true (what Shahid Afridi said), then it is unfair. He should have straightaway been sent to the best knee surgeon in the World. But he is looking after all this himself, I am still shocked about it,” Akram said in an interview with local news channel.

Earlier, Afridi had said, “He has flown out to the UK on his own ticket, he is staying there on his own money, I arranged a doctor for him there, he contacted him there, the PCB is not doing anything in all this. As far as I know he is doing everything about staying there and coordination with doctors.”

Meanwhile Ramiz Raja in an interview has said that it is unfortunate controversy and PCB cant disown its assets.

“How can you even think that PCB can disown Shaheen Afridi? It is beyond my understanding. It’s an unfortunate controversy,” Ramiz said.

“When Rizwan fell ill during the T20 World Cup 2022, who took care of him? Our doctor’s panel stayed up all night to treat him, they got him fit and they ensured he played in the final (semi-final).It could be that in this case, there was a lack of clarity,” he added.

“Because he had to leave quickly from Dubai, maybe there was some ticketing issue. Because he went where he had to go, but he didn’t like the place, so he went somewhere else.”

Raja signed off by saying, “But I would like to make one thing clear. Our players are our biggest stakeholders. Ask anybody. What we are doing, no cricket board doesn’t do. And not just for players who play for the national team. First Class players, junior players as well.”
