Umran Malik will miss the upcoming first phase of the Ranji Trophy due to a hip injury, KSW learned through sources on Sunday.
The pace sensation was recently named in J&K’s Ranji Trophy squad but he complained of pain in his hip and after going through scans, he has been advised to rest for at least 4-6 weeks.
Umran has been out of action for a long time now. He last featured in the IPL, where Sunrisers Hyderabad used him in just one match.
Not long ago, the 24-year-old was proposed to be India’s next speed star, but he faded away quickly due to inconsistent performances at the higher level.
He was named in the Duleep Trophy squad but due to dengue, he was ruled out. Later, he suffered a hamstring injury. After recovering from it, he has now picked up a hip injury and might not return to action soon.
JKCA is yet to name a replacement for him in the Ranji Trophy squad. However, KSW has learned that either Waseem Bashir or Umar Nazir will replace him.
