UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping has offered valuable advice to former bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili following his defeat at UFC 323, where he lost the title to Petr Yan.
Dvalishvili entered UFC 323 aiming to complete a perfect 4-0 run in 2025. However, Yan halted that momentum by reclaiming the UFC bantamweight championship, bringing an end to Merab’s impressive streak. Despite the setback, many believe a trilogy fight between the two fighters is inevitable in 2026.
Bisping’s Message: ‘Take a Break’
Given Dvalishvili’s grueling schedule—four fights, four training camps, and four intense weight cuts this year—Bisping urged the Georgian fighter to finally give himself time to recover.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Bisping said:
“Merab probably deserves the rematch if we’re being honest. Look at the body of work—yeah, he probably does. But there’s Umar Nurmagomedov out there. I would say let Yan defend for a minute.
Take a break, brother. Have a little bit of time off. You’ve done incredible things.”
Bisping emphasized that Merab has not only earned significant paydays but has also proudly represented his country on the sport’s biggest stage. After such demanding fights, he believes the former champion needs rest—both physical and mental.
“Have three, four, five months off. Rest on your laurels. Reap the rewards of your riches and your spoils. Relax. Take a break. Let the body and mind recover. Then come back and reclaim your throne.”
What’s Next for Merab Dvalishvili?
With rising contender Umar Nurmagomedov also in the title conversation and Yan likely defending the belt soon, Dvalishvili has several options for his return. But one thing is clear: the UFC legend’s advice is for him to step back, recharge, and prepare for another championship run.
