Srinagar, 9 September 2021: In a major boost to Rowing ( watersport) in Kashmir, top Rowing experts of India on Wednesday , September 8 interacted with Kashmir watersport players at Water Sports Centre Nehru Park Srinagar.

Rowing Federation of India in its official statement termed it a great beginning which will go down in history as one of the major milestones in the development of Rowing sport in J&K.

“Today is a red-letter day for J&K Rowing. A day to be remembered and cherished. A day when J&K Rowing took the initial baby steps to establish Rowing in the Water Sports Rowing Academy. This facility was supported by Government of India with the active help of the Rowing Federation of India and the J&K Sports Council and J&K Sports Ministry,” Rowing Federation statement reads.

“Dronacharya Ismail Baig and Padma Shri & Arjuna Awardee Bajrang Lal Thakar are in Srinagar supervising the facilities and initiating the budding youngsters who are thronging the venue to listen to them. The boats and ground installations are being fine-tuned, and safety measures inspected. Ismail and Bajrang are also initiating the young talent into the sport,” statement said.

“Looking forward to happy rowing in the Lakes of Kashmir and Jammu. Looking forward to our first Flat Water Championships soon. Indoor Rowing is already popular in Kashmir. Thanks to the efforts of Bilquis Mir, the force behind the Water Sports Centre and the J&K Association. On behalf of the Rowing Federation of India our best wishes to the enthusiastic rowers of Kashmir,” statement issued by MV Sriram , Secretary General of Rowing Federation added.
