Sunrisers likely to release Umran Malik, RCB interested to bring in pacer

Srinagar: In a major update ahead of IPL 2025 players auction, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have hinted out that it will be releasing out of form express pacer from J&K, Umran Malik.
Umran Malik has been part of Sunrisers , since making his debut in IPL and for India. It was SRH that gave youngster a platform to perform at highest level in 2021 and emerge out as fastest ever bowler from India.

Malik’s breakthrough season came in 2022, when he emerged as one of the most exciting young talents in the IPL, finishing with 22 wickets from 14 games for the SRH. His standout performance earned him a maiden call-up to the Indian cricket team, but after few opportunities, he failed to meet the expectations.

Meanwhile, Umran’s form has seen a huge decline in the last few seasons, as the speedster scalped only five wickets in eight games in the 2023 season while he got only one match in the IPL 2024.

Now a report has claimed that Sunrisers have msde up their mind to release Umran Malik before IPL 2025 mega auction. SRH is focussing on to strengthen its squad ans Malik’s form is a major concern.

The same report said that many IPL teams, including RCB have shown interest in getting Umran Malik, if SRH releases him.

In the IPL 2025 mega auction, Umran Malik is going to be one of the hot picks if he goes under the hammer at the auction later this year.

From being hailed as one of India’s most promising fast-bowling talents to struggling to find a spot even on the B-string side and even on the verge of losing his IPL team, Malik’s career graph has taken a surprising downturn. He represented India in 10 ODIs and 8 T20Is, where he picked up 13 and 11 wickets, respectively, after making his debut in 2022.

His IPL franchise had once made him a household name, but SRH also lost faith in his abilities, giving him only a single match in IPL 2024 and now planning to release him. However, Paras Mhambrey, a former Indian bowling coach who won the T20 World Cup 2024 last month, suggested that Malik should consider playing domestic cricket for a different state to regain his form and position in the cricket world.
