Srinagar , October 2: Suhail Nissar cruised to win in the annual road race of Islamia College of Science and Commerce on Saturday, October 2 .
The department of physical education, Islamia College of Science and Commerce organized “Fit India Freedom Run 2.0” on Saturday, 2nd October 2021 on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti.
The race was flagged off by the Principal Prof. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir from Nishat Crossing, Srinagar. The participant athletes ran via Fore Shore Road – Shalimar Ghat -– and finished at Duck Park, Hazratbal Srinagar, covering a distance of 06. kilometers.
Fifty Seven (57) male students of the college took part with great zeal and zest. In view of Covid-19 pandemic since last two years the participation can be termed very good and encouraging, the students displayed lot of excitement and enthusiasm, as the college staff especially on duty for the purpose, encouraged them enroute.
Waseem Ahmad of B. Sc Non. Med. claimed the Second Place at ease without facing much competition from his rivals, by covering the distance in 16:40:83 mns. While as Shahid Hussain Buhroo of B. Sc (Honrs) Zoology & Amir Hussain Bhat of B. Com (Honrs) claimed the third and fourth place with timings of 17:37:82 mns, and 17:38:00 mns and Muzammil Hilal of B.Sc (Non- Med.) claimed 5th place with the timings of 17:46:22 mns respectively.
After the culmination of the race the prize distribution ceremony was held at Duck Park, Foreshore Road at the beautiful banks of the world famous Dal Lake.
The prizes were given away to the first five position holders by the Principal of the College. In his speech on the occasion, the Principal also encouraged students to take part in the sports activities in and outside the college. He insisted the participants to take part whole heartedly in the sports events which are being organized in the College particularly the Inter-Group and Inter-College tournaments.
For College staff Convener Sports Committee Prof. Shameem Ahmad Shameem, Prof. Mir Mohammad Hanief, Prof. Mehraj-ud-Din Gagloo , Prof. Sameer Koul, Prof. Tarooq Ahmad Ganai, Prof. Abid Hussain Banday, Dr Zahoor Ahmad Sofi, Prof Nofiya Yousuf , Uzair Mustafa (Asstt. Physical Director) with entire staff of the Department of Physical Education of the College were present on the occasion to organize the event successfully.
