Srinagar Carrom Championship held

Srinagar: The District Srinagar Carrom Championship 2025–26 concluded at the Carrom Hall, Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar. The championship showcased the vibrant spirit of young athletes across various age categories, reflecting the growing popularity of indoor sports like carrom in the region.

The closing ceremony was graced by Javid-ur-Rehman Administrative Officer, J&K Sports Council and Sports Officer Central (Kashmir), who distributed the trophies and medals among the winners and runners-up. He was joined by Adil Rashid Shah, President, Jammu & Kashmir Carrom Association, Goutam Shukla, Incharge Sports Activities, J&K Sports Council, Arif Sultan Khan, Treasurer, and Dawar Rashid Gadyari, Assistant Secretary and Organizing Secretary of the event.

In his keynote address, Javid-ur-Rehman congratulated all players, officials, and parents for their active involvement and commitment to the event. He emphasized the vital role of sports in youth development, stating, “It is far better to choose the path of sports over the perils of drug abuse. Games are a source of discipline, direction, and determination—qualities every young person must embrace.”

Adil Rashid Shah, while addressing the gathering, extended heartfelt congratulations to all winners and participants. He expressed his sincere gratitude to the J&K Sports Council,  especially Secretary Nuzhat Gull, for their unwavering support and for facilitating the smooth conduct of the championship. He encouraged young players to register with the Sports Council and attend regular practice sessions held daily at 3:00 PM at Carrom Hall, Bakshi Stadium. He also urged parents and schools to promote sports among children, noting that “Carrom may be a smaller discipline, but it offers equal opportunities for sports quota benefits, college admissions, and career development, just like hockey, cricket or football.”
