Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council rafting teams emerged winners in the ongoing Rouf Memorial Rafting championship conducted by J&K Tourism department, bagging three medals on Tuesday at Pahalgam.
In the event, Sports Council women team bagged gold in the sprint category and one silver in other category. The Sports Council men team bagged silver medal in sprint category. In the event 12 teams from all the three regions of the State are participating
“Our teams beat teams like J&K Police Water Sports Team, SDRF, White Water Rafting team Pahalgam, Jammu team, Ladakh and Star Rafting Club which are thought as strongest teams of the State,” said Mir Bilquis water sports coach.
Bilquis said that the girls who bagged gold did it despite not having proper backing and support. She said that without the parents support they couldn’t have done this and there is need to promote women sports.
“It is my experience that the girls, women’s went to come out to participate in sports activities but do not have adequate backup form parents and also due to lack of awareness. We should organise women sports events in all sports for the women and by the women. God bless you guys u make me proud,” she added.
