Srinagar ,April 26: The young South African cricketer Bjorn Fortuin who made his International debut on in September 2019 has embraced Islam.

As per reports Fortuin has accepted Islam along with his wife in the holy month of Ramadan. And, after his wedding on 25th April 2021, Fortuin has changed his name to Imaad. The marriage between Fortuin and his wife Mieshke Aysen took place on the morning of 25th April 2021.

The news was first posted on Instagram that was also shared by the cricketer’s wife afterward. Fortuin himself also shared the same story on his official handle.

Later his teammate Tabraiz Shamsi’s wife also shared the photo of Bjorn with his wife and congratulated the young couple for embracing Islam in the holy month of Ramadan.

The 26-year-old has played one ODI and six T20I matches for the South African national team while he also played in the T20 series against Pakistan

“Last night Bjorn took his Shahada. Alhamdulillah, and during the month of Ramadan. He chose the name Imaad. So proud of you,” read the caption on a photo that was shared by Fortuin on Instagram.

He becomes the second South African player to have accepted Islam as a religion as previous left-arm-medium-fast bowler Wayne Parnell also converted back in 2011.Parnell played 65 ODIs and 40 T20Is for the South African side.
While he picked up 94 wickets in the ODI format of the game, Parnell also scalped 41 wickets in T20I cricket. Parnell also featured in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
