Srinagar: Senior Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik has refused to announce his retirement and has said that his aim is to break Chris Gayle’s T20 record.
In 463 matches, Gayle has scored 14562 runs at an average of 36.22 and a strike-rate of 144.75. He hit 22 hundreds, 88 fifties, 1132 fours, and 1056 sixes.
Meanwhile Shoaib Malik has amassed 12688 runs in 515 games at an average of 36.25 and a strike-rate of 127.68. He has smashed 79 fifties, 991 fours and 397 sixes.
“My goal is to score around 2000 runs to go past Chris Gayle to become the best player in T20 cricket. I am open to play but a clarity is needed. I am not playing cricket to represent Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup. I play the game because I enjoy it. There is no problem of fitness,” Malik was quoted as saying.
