NAPIER: West Indies captain Shai Hope created cricketing history on Wednesday by becoming the first player ever to score a century against all eleven other ICC full-member nations. The landmark came during his superb ton in the second ODI against New Zealand at McLean Park, despite the visitors falling to a five-wicket defeat.
Hope’s blistering innings not only etched his name in the record books but also surpassed a historic benchmark previously associated with Rahul Dravid. The Indian legend was the first to record a Test century in all 10 Test-playing countries and against nine Test nations — at a time when Afghanistan and Ireland had not yet received Test status.
Hope Goes Past Gayle and Jayawardene With Tons Against 13 Opponents
With international centuries also registered against Netherlands and Nepal, Hope has now scored hundreds against 13 different teams — more than any player in cricket history. He overtakes former teammate Chris Gayle and Sri Lanka great Mahela Jayawardene, both of whom had centuries against 12 opposition sides.
