Sepak Takraw revived in J&K after 15 Years, new body formed

Srinagar: After a gap of 15 years, Sepak Takraw—a thrilling sport combining elements of volleyball and martial arts—has been officially revived in Jammu & Kashmir. A newly elected governing body has been constituted to lead the sport’s development across the region.

Importantly, Sepak Takraw is recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, giving the sport official national status and support for its promotion and development.

Speak Takraw is an officially played at Asian Games , National Games, Khelo India beach games and Khelo India Youth Games. It’s also part of the different vertical schemes under Khelo India too.

The new leadership of the J&K Sepak Takraw Association includes:

President: Sarfaraz Hussain

General Secretary: Arifa Rashid

Treasurer: Shabnum Hassan

With fresh energy and vision, the association is initiating district-level tournaments and forming district-level bodies to identify and nurture talent at the grassroots. The revival effort is focused on creating a strong foundation for future athletes in the sport.

“This is more than just a revival—it’s a new beginning for Sepak Takraw in Jammu & Kashmir,” said President Sarfaraz Hussain. “We are committed to expanding access and providing opportunities to our youth.”

The association plans to conduct training camps, inter-school competitions, and workshops across districts, aiming to re-establish the sport as a competitive discipline within the state and at the national level.
